Please find below a list of some of the philanthropic events, hours dedicated and money raised we have been part of during the 2015-2016 school year, as well as others planned in the future. For philanthropic inquiries and questions, please get in contact with the current Philanthropy Chairs, Jake Baynum '18 and Andrew Bianco '18.
Party for the Brave: The Chapter's most attended event, held at least once a year, is a celebration for the American Armed Forces. In the Fall, Brothers spent nearly 20 hours in the O'Connor Campus Center (Coop) advertising the event, selling tshirts, encouraging donations, and educating other students abut the charity. The Fall semester's Party of the Brave was held to benefit the Bob Woodruff Foundation. Founded by Bob Woodruff (Iota '83), this non-profit aims to support the US veterans who sustained injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan. Through tshirt sales and the generous donations of Colgate students, parents, and alumni, Theta Chi donated $3000 to our wounded veterans. In past years, this event was in support the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
Relay for Life: Theta Chi's own Jordan Shenker '16 was instrumental in organizing the Relay for Life at Colgate, with Brothers volunteering more than 40 man-hours walking around Colgate's indoor track to raise awareness of cancer and encourage donations. With the help of other on-campus philanthropic clubs, and with the participation and leadership of Theta Chi members, Colgate was able to raise $17,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Colgate Lymphoma Gala: In December, the Colgate community joined together to host the Colgate Gala to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. With food, drink, and auction items provided by local businesses and other generous donors, over 400 people attended the event, including many Theta Chi brothers. As a cosponsor to the event, Theta Chi helped the Gala ultimately raise over $11,000 for the research of blood cancers.
Walk A Mile In Her Shoes: During Colgate's Greek Week, 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence' held its annual walk on campus. This April, Brothers Stobierski '18, Thomas '18, Bianco '18, Chabot '17, Baynum '18, Marr '18, and Fortgang '16 participated – literally putting on high-heeled shoes and walking laps around the track. In additional support of the cause, Theta Chi made a banner which hung from the Theta Chi porch to raise awareness for sexual assault.
Colleges Against Cancer Fundraiser: Our Chapter emphasized collaborating with other Greek and on-campus organizations in order to better raise awareness, fundraise, and foster a more inclusive Colgate climate. In conjunction with Phi Delta Theta and Colleges Against Cancer, The Brothers of Theta Chi donated both their time and money, attending, organizing, and aiding in a benefit concert late in the spring semester to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Party for the Brave: Theta Chi ended the year with another Party for the Brave event. Using the same fundraising model as the Fall event, the Brothers helped raise money for the United Services Organization. The USO provides support programs, entertainment, ad care packages for activemembers of the Armed Forces and their fmilies. Ever since its founding at Norwich University, Theta Chi has emphasized patriotism, philanthropy, and pride in our military. This April, the Iota Chapter spent 20 hours to educate about the organization and raised nearly $1000 for the USO. Our house is devoted to the continuation of this event in support the brave men and women of the Armed Forces.
